AIA UK Scotland Excursion

17 – 19 September 2010


Early-bird Deadline Extended to midnight, Wednesday 11 August

Tour of Edinburgh and Glasgow has been organised by the AIA UK.
















Friday evening and the full day on Saturday will be based in Edinburgh with a tour of the city, and visits to buildings including the Scottish Parliament, Museum of Scotland, Dynamic Earth, and a collection of Robert Adams buildings. We will have a talk from the office of Malcolm Fraser.

Sunday is devoted to Glasgow with a city tour, and building tours of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s School of Art, the Hazelwood School, and the Small Animal Hospital. This will be followed by a talk from the office of Gordon Murray/Alan Dunlop.

CES credits will be available, with an anticipated 12-15 credits being available.

The early-bird discount, until
midnight, 11th August:

£99 for AIA members and partners

£149 for non-AIA members.

After this date the cost is:

£149 for AIA members

£199 for non-AIA members.

The registration fee includes the dinner on the Saturday evening, guided tours, and the cost of coaches.

You will need to organise your own travel and accommodation.

Summer Cycle Tour

Suffolk Countryside and Coast
Saturday 14th August



Please join us for a day out cycling around Suffolk. We will be cycling in the countryside that lies between Ipswich and Lowesoft. We We will stop for pub lunch at Snape Maltings, a series of agricultural and industrial buildings that have been converted to various uses including a concert hall. Then we will cycle onwards to the small seaport town of Aldeburgh. Additional possible destinations include Framlingham Castle, a 12th Century fortress, and the medieval burial ground Sutton Hoo.

Meet at Liverpool Street Station.
The expected departure will be on the 09:38 with a change at Ipswich. Last returning train departs Saxmundham at 21:45.

AIA UK Summer Gala

Speaker Announced:
Iwona Blazwick, Director of Whitechapel Gallery


Iwona Blazwick will be giving a brief talk about the history of the gallery and the current exhibition. Iwona has been Director of the
Whitechapel Gallery since 2001, leading its expansion in 2009. From 1997 until 2001 she was a curator and then Head of Exhibitions and Displays at Tate Modern. From 1986 until 1993 she was Director of Exhibitions at London’s ICA where she presented Damien Hirst’s first public solo exhibition.

A critic, lecturer and broadcaster, Iwona Blazwick has published reviews and essays on individual artists, themes and movements in contemporary art and on arts institutions. She is series editor of Whitechapel/MIT Press Documents of Contemporary Art. She has been on numerous juries including the Turner Prize and the Venice Biennale Golden Lion jury. She is also Chair of the Mayor of London’s Cultural Strategy Group. She was awarded an OBE in 2008 and has honorary degrees from the London Metropolitan and Plymouth Universities.
